Los Angeles-based pop-punk outfit ROCKET recently released their debut single, entitled “Giants.” According to the band, “’Giants’ is about the feeling you get when you accomplish something as a team or with a community. Sure, you’re a bad arse on your own, but sometimes it can be more empowering to recognize that you’re even mightier as a collective.”

Produced by Grammy-nominated Mark Needhan and engineered by Dough Grean, two names popping up frequently, “Giants” highlights polished production.

Formed in 2013, ROCKET is made up of Janelle Barreto, Eric Wibbelsman, Steve Kilcullen, Jordan Lawson, and Paul DePatie. Frontwoman Barreto says, “We all just clicked from the get-go, had similar influences and a singular mindset. We are dedicated to being a voice for those who’ve been told they’re weird, strange or don’t fit in.”

Since getting together as ROCKET, the band has polished their chops playing anywhere and everywhere, including the Whisky a Go Go, and has shared the stage with Bow Wow Wow, Alien Ant Farm, and Puddle of Mudd. CBS Los Angeles declared ROCKET as one of “THE BEST BANDS TO CATCH,” and their music has received extensive airplay on KROQ 106.7, KLOS 95.5, Indie 103.1, along with being featured in Music Connection.

“Giants” opens on a galvanizing bassline rolling into rumbling drums, followed by potent guitars. Barreto’s commanding voice enters, infusing the lyrics with beau coup delicious upbeat tones traveling on rasping timbres and electrifying penetration. It’s a voice to reckon with, full of supercharged hues and charismatic sonic auras.

When the harmonics mousse up on the chorus, the music takes on surging pop-punk energy. A drum-filled booming bridge imbues the tune with dark reverberations, as brawny guitars inject thick, growling textures. Barreto’s deliciously wicked scream leads into a kaleidoscopic breakdown full of heaving layers of psychedelic discharges and then bursts into gushing climax propelled by high-octane guitars.

On “Giants,” ROCKET lights it up with titanic dynamism, rife with infectious rhythmic pulses and scorching vocals from Janelle Barreto.
