The highlight of Day 2 of ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO was a keynote conversation (presented by ole) with renowned producer Timbaland, the five-time ASCAP Songwriter of the Year and Executive Music Producer for the hit FOX TV seriesEmpire. Appearing via videoconference from Miami, Timbo loomed large on the on-screen monitors in the Dolby Ballroom and treated the audience to his thoughts on what makes a hit song, his chemistry with Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z, and a lively audience Q&A that resulted in some impromptu auditions and “only at EXPO” moments.


We Are Young: A Conversation with Nate Ruess and Paul Williams featured the songwriter and vocalist for the GRAMMY-winning group fun. and Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe-winning songwriter, Paul Williams.  The two offered a unique comparison of the songwriter at various stages of life that was inspiring and insightful.


Grammy-winning songwriter/producer Darrell Brown (Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Bon Jovi) packed the Hollywood Ballroom for the better part of the day for his Live Multi-Genre Song Feedback Sessions. As in the past, Brown offered in-the-moment, constructive song critiques and suggestions to EXPO audience members, sure to result in some wonderful music in the future.


Day 2 also featured Master Sessions with three-time ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year Ashley Gorley and Grammy-winning classical composer, conductor and sought-after speaker Eric WhitacreJames Fauntleroy, the Grammy-winning co-writer on Rihanna’s ANTI, presented an unusual live music master session that had his 1500 or Nothin’ crew playing a groove and working on a song in real-time, and shared his personal philosophies on how to be more creative.
